Kim explores the interplay between excitement and fear in their paintings, incorporating words such as trepidation, Frisson, and Ambivalent to capture the contrasting emotions. The artist delves into the shared human experience of anxiety, fear, and worry that each individual grapples with in life. Kim's artwork features crocodile balloons serenely floating in a swimming pool, a clever twist on these normally perilous creatures, symbolizing the idea that fears are often illusory and subject to personal perception, much like the fragile nature of balloons that can burst at any moment. To Kim, the swimming pool represents a space of fear, contrasting with the common desire to enjoy it freely, emphasizing the complexity and contradiction inherent in the concept of fear. The artist infuses their paintings with a sense of playfulness and vibrancy to convey the hidden fears that people conceal from the outside world. Kim believes that fear is not merely a negative emotion but also a catalyst for personal growth, motivating individuals to step beyond their comfort zones.
